5 min readThe Amco Cigars project demonstrates how large cold stores are an essential solution for manufacturing plants. Amco produces a wide range of cigars, with their main ingredients kept in freezer storage to preserve them until they are needed.
Refpro Refrigeration was entrusted with the design and construction of a large freezer cold room, allowing racking systems and stackers to enter the room seamlessly and store pallets of products efficiently. Insulated with heavy-duty panels, the room is powered by a high-recovery refrigeration system. To further reassure the client in case of repairs or emergencies, the installation includes both a duty and standby unit, ensuring that if any issue arises, a backup unit is always ready to operate during maintenance or servicing.
The units are equipped with highly efficient Bitzer compressors, delivering up to 23 horsepower per unit. The evaporators are fitted with EC fans to maximise energy efficiency while providing reliable cooling down to -22°C.
To further reassure the client and protect their sensitive products, a remote monitoring system was also installed. This allows live monitoring and instant feedback through direct alerts and an online platform accessible via mobile devices, displaying real-time operating temperatures and system parameters.
